Brighton is a bustling seaside city on the South coast of the UK. Many Londoners choose to live in Brighton and commute into the Capital for jobs, as Brighton has a fast line up to London Victoria. Brighton joined as one with Hove back in 2000, and the city is a major tourist destination in the UK. The city’s economy is estimated to be worth around £4 billion, with tourism and leisure sectors being two of the top industries for jobs in Brighton. There are lots of restaurants and hotel to choose from, and a vibrant city centre with many boutique shops found in the famous Laines. It is thought that the retail industry in Brighton employs around 16& of the workforce in jobs across varying shops.
Brighton is home to two universities; The University of Sussex and The University of Brighton. These are two major employers in the area, providing hundreds of jobs for locals. Brighton is a cultural hub, with many overseas students choosing to study in the city. The education sector in Brighton employs around 10% of the total city’s workforce. Brighton and Hove Council is also one of the top employers in the area employing people in jobs across a number of different areas.
One major business and top employer in Brighton is American Express, part of the financial sector. The company employs over 4,000 people at its office in Brighton. On the whole, the financial industry is thought to employ around 25% of Brighton’s total workforce. Many people move to Brighton for its artistic vibes and creative networks. In turn, this has generated a higher than average self-employed sector, with many freelance artists and creative teachers based in the city. The media sector is a top industry in the city, with over 300 media based businesses employing over 3,000 people in a number of different roles.
With its fantastic links to the Capital and plenty of cultural activities always going on, Brighton is one of the UK’s most popular cities to live in and for tourists to visit. There are plenty of job opportunities in Brighton ranging across a wide variety of industries; you never know what you might end up working as if you go with the flow and adopt the Brighton spirit.
